Practice Responding to Partner's opening bid with 4 card support

Acol Bidding

Partner opens 1H; you with 10 HCP and a 4 card heart suit jump the bidding to 3H showing 10+ points and a four card fit. Partner accepts the invitation to game and bids 4H.

Your Plan

Dummy goes down, looks like using the rule of eleven that this lead could be away from the AC or QC (4th highest from longest and strongest suit). so, draw trumps, use the diamonds in hand and trumps as entries to your hand to finesse the QS (twice).

The Play

Play low to the club lead, win the diamond return in your hand. lead a low spade to the 10S, win the diamond return in hand; lead a low spade to the JS; play the KS, draw trumps

Comment

Eleven tricks can be made with this hand as long as you finesse, otherwise you only make 10 tricks

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
