Leading up to your Honor Cards

Bidding

Open 1H planning to rebid 1NT. (not 1NT because of your headless diamond suit) partner supports you with 2H you invite because of your 16 points but partner passes. All pass!

Acol Bidding

Open 1H planning to rebid 1NT. (not 1NT because of your headless diamond suit) partner supports you with 2H you invite because of your 16 points but partner passes. All pass!

Your Plan

Dummy goes down and in a suit count your losers. Spades= 0; hearts= 2; diamonds=2; clubs=0. You should make 3H.

The Play

KD opening lead, lose the 2 first diamonds and win the spade switch in dummy so you can lead low when drawing trumps. Lead out the 5H towards QH west covers with AH and leads a spade which you win in hand and use the QC to enter dummy and lead low towards the JH ducking when east plays the KH. Win the club return and draw the last outstanding trump. The last 4 tricks are yours.

Comment

If you lead out your QH and JH instead of leading out low you can only make 8 tricks and go light. Leading low toward honor cards in the trump suit makes 9 tricks.

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
