Acol Bidding

The opponents open 1D. With your long 7 card suit and 12 points make a jump overcall - 3C partner will know it's weak and the opposition will have difficulty bidding their suits. All Pass

Your Plan

Dummy goes down. In a suit contract count your losing tricks. Spades=0; Hearts=2; Diamonds=0 and Clubs=1. You might make 11 tricks if you can avoid one of the heart losers.

The Play

Ruff the diamond lead in your hand. With 11 trumps and only 2 out play for the drop of KC. doesn't work but the second trump round gets the king out. Cover the QS return making the JS an extra winner. Play a low spade to JS and play a low heart up to the QH. It makes so lead another low heart up to the AH. Ruff a diamond and play AS throwing your 10H. Ruff the heart and another diamond. The rest of the tricks are yours.

Comment

A surprise 12 tricks, East should have played his KH on your first round of hearts, then you would only make 11, but that's his problem.

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
