Partner opens 3C, with 20 points you need to chose the game you should be in the options are 3NT or 5C. For 3NT you need to have good stoppers in every other suit plus entries in this case club suit cards into partners hand, for 5C you need to win 11 tricks, what will you choose?

Your Plan

In 3NT count your winners. 2 in spades, 0 in hearts, 1 in diamonds and 0 in clubs. This contract will be tight as you could easily lose control of the diamond suit if the opposition lead them.

The Play

Thankfully the opposition lead hearts. If you win the heart lead play all your heart winners, AC and KC cross to dummies clubs and play them you will have 10 tricks off the top. Go for it before the opposition lead their winning diamonds and spades. leaving the opposition their winning 3 tricks at the end.

Comment

If you play in 3NT you will get 430 points for winning 10 tricks, but if you play in 5C you get only 420 points for 11 tricks.

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
