Weak two bids

Weak twos

Bidding

You have the perfect hand for a Weak two opening bid. 2D and your partner must have 16+ points as he has bid. The rule with a weak two bid is that you have described your hand with 1 bid, you should not bid again.

Acol Bidding

You have the perfect hand for a Weak two opening bid. 2D and your partner must have 16+ points as he has bid. The rule with a weak two bid is that you have described your hand with 1 bid, you should not bid again.

Your Plan

In 2S count your losers, 2 in spades 1 in hearts, 1 in diamonds and 0 in clubs. So this contract should make.

The Play

With a club lead win with the QC and draw 2 rounds of trumps lose to the AH but win the heart return, draw a third round of trumps (seeing a 4-2 distribution in trumps), win the second heart return, draw outstanding trumps (they are lower than yours) play KC then KD and the last 2 diamond tricks are yours.

Comment

You can make 12 tricks in 3NT but only 10 tricks if your partner bids 2S. If you break the rule about not rebidding after a weak 2 opening and bid 3NT over partners 2S, partner will bid 6NT, and its there for the taking

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
