Which Game is it best to be in

How do I know which game I should bid?

Bidding

Partner opens a major you show your 7 HCP with a 1NT bid and partner rebids the other major suit. You have now found a heart fit and can re-evaluate your hand and add 2 extra short suit points for your 2 doubletons. With 9 total points you now have a dilemma - presuming your partner has a medium strength hand (so 15-16 [points) with your 10 Total points game is very possible. Your choice! but if you choose wrongly either way partner will be cross with you. So leave them in 2H invite partner to 3H (if they have med-good hand they will bid game) or just bid 4H. No pressure!

Acol Bidding

Your Plan

Count your losers - you have 1 heart, 1 club, 1 diamond and no spade losers. Ruffing low spades should provide another 3 tricks if you do not draw three rounds of trumps just 2. There are 4 trumps out, hopefully divided 2-2.

The Play

Win the lead. draw two rounds of trumps watching that the opposition follow, after two rounds you see that west only had 1 trump, therefore east has the QH leave them to ruff whenever they like. Play Ace and King of spades, play Ace of clubs and lead a low spade, lose the diamond and club loser and cross ruff your spades and diamonds (making 4 whew!!!!) I hope you were in game

Comment

In these situations its often easier on your relationship to invite partner with 3H so if they then bid game and it goes light its their fault!

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
