Weak responses to Partner's 1NT opening

Bidding

Partner opens 1NT - with only 5 points make a takeout bid 2S showing your 6 card spade suit and weak points. The opposition decide to bid, you find slightly more values with your heart singleton, so rebid 3S. Partner has been warned and will be quiet. All Pass

Your Plan

Dummy goes down, count your losers 1 each in spades and hearts 1 in diamonds and 0 in clubs. You should make this contract.

The Play

Club lead, win with the AC and then a small club to the KC. A low spade up toward the KS, duck when the AS is played by West, Lose to the Heart Ace and let the diamond return run hoping to make your QD. Two more rounds of trumps draw the remaining ones out. All the rest of the tricks are your.

Comment

Making 11 tricks as long as you remember to always lead low up to your honors in spades. If you don't the opposition get another trump trick.

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
