Weak 2 Pre-empts

With a 6 card suit but not enough points to open at the 1 level

Bidding

Open 2S with 7 TP and a 6 card spade suit. Partner raises you to 4S. All Pass

Acol Bidding

Open 2S with 7 TP and a 6 card spade suit. Partner raises you to 4S. All Pass

Your Plan

Dummy goes down and you count your losers in a suit. Spades=0; Hearts=1; Diamonds=2; Clubs=1. you need to develop another winner either with a heart finesse or the 10,9,8 of diamonds.

The Play

A heart lead, oh well take the finesse. That didn't work, but the diamond return means losing only 1 round of diamonds before you have another 2 winning tricks. But draw trumps first. All of a sudden if I run my high hearts on the table I can throw away my losing club and last diamond and the rest of the tricks are yours.

Comment

If you pass and don't bid 2S partner opens 2NT and you take contract to 4S, making 11 tricks

NOTE: The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand. Beginners should also make extensive use of the 'Hint' button. The hints are computer generated and quite conservative, but are often useful if you are looking for a good suggestion.
