Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down and you count your winners. 1 in spades 1 in hearts 2 in diamonds and 2 in clubs - establishing the diamonds and low clubs and ruffing hearts is your best opportunity to make extra winners.

The Play

Duck the heart lead and win the heart return discarding a spade in your hand. Draw trumps ruffing any heart returns. Play your clubs discarding a spade from your hand on the KC. Lose a spade trick and the rest are yours

Comment

The beauty of opening this hand at the 3 level is that it stops the opposition from finding their club and heart fits. Also your partner knows that to bid another suit they will need to have a very strong hand at least 16+ points

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
