Bidding

P - 1C - ? With 11 HCP and a five card diamond suit overcall 1D. Yes its not a good suit but at the 1 level you can often get away with it. Partner with 5 diamonds 13 TP's jumps and bids 3D. All Pass

Acol Bidding

P - 1C - ? With 11 HCP and a five card diamond suit overcall 1D. Partner with 5 diamonds 13 TP's jumps and bids 3D. You can revalue your hand having found a fit using short suit distribution points can see another 2 DP's so its 13TP's - invite partner to game in diamonds by bidding 4D - which says "partner if you have maximum values please bid game in diamonds. Partner passes - All Pass

Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down and you count your losers. 1 in spades - 1 in hearts - none in diamonds and clubs. Ruffing clubs will give you extra tricks.

The Play

Win the club lead with the AC and ruff a low club from hand in dummy. Draw 1 round of trumps winning with the KD in hand. Ruff another low club in dummy and draw a second round of trumps. With all oppositions trumps drawn, enter Declarer's hand with AH and ruff the last low club in dummy. Play the AS and a low heart. Play the last 2 trump cards and then lose the last spade.

Comment

If you don't overcall the opponents bid 2H and make it for -120 points against you. Cross ruffing and being careful about your entries gives you 11 tricks and 150 points.

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
