Plan Before You Play
Dummy goes down and in a NoTrump contract count your winning tricks. Spades 3, Hearts 1, Diamonds 2 and Clubs 1. Using the rule of eleven to analyse the opening lead gives you the confidence to play the KH at trick 1. At trick 5 we We won't bother leading clubs because there are still 2 clubs outstanding and one of them is an honor card - we don't want the opposition to lead the heart suit.
The Play
Lose the AC lead but win the club return with KC. Play the KS and then play JD losing to the AD. Now the KD and QD are high as well as the 2 small diamonds. Play your diamonds and watch the opposition discard spades (this is called a squeeze) on trick 8, so after playing AS and QS in the end your 5S is high. The last 2 heart tricks go to the opposition.
Comment
Clubs and Diamonds are your long suits so as you play them if you can extract all the opposition cards in those suits you will have developed small cards as winners. You have eight diamond cards so try that suit first.
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
