East opens 1C but with your 6 card good spade suit (2 honors) and 11 points overcall spades. West competes 1NT but rebid the spade suit 2S. Partner bids 3S. All Pass.
Acol Bidding
East opens 1NT with your 6 card good spade suit (2 honors) and 11 points overcall 2S. All Pass.
Plan Before You Play
Dummy goes down, count your losing tricks. One in spades, 3 in hearts 2 in diamonds and none in clubs. You need to get rid of 2 losing tricks by ruffing losers with your long spade suit diamonds and clubs are the best candidates for this. You will need to guard your entries to dummy in order to lead the sides suits for ruffing.
The Play
Win the opening KD lead. East opened the bidding so we hope he holds the QS. Enter dummy with AC lead out the JS ducking if east doesn't play QS, play 7S planning to play 10S if east doesn't cover and finally play AS dropping east's QS if it hasn't been played. Enter dummy again with KC and ruff a low club. Lead the 10D losing to west and ruff the diamond return. Lead a heart up to QH, east wins and returns the AH. Your JH is now high and you have 2 more trump tricks.
Comment
With East opening the bidding and your side holding 22 points you can estimate which hand contains most of the outstanding high cards. Entries to Dummy are the most important feature in playing this hand to make 10 tricks
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
