Partner opens 1S -
jump shift bid to show your 16+ points and a 5 card diamond suit
If you are adventurous with your 17 HCP you may like to see if your partnership has enough aces for slam even though strictly speaking you can't see 32 points. So bid 4NT Ace asking planning to stop at 5D if partner answers 5C.Partner bids 5D so 1 Ace now king ask... 5NT and they have 1 king. The problem with the king ask is that you are committed to 6D even if partner has no kings. Pass

Dummy goes down and you count your losers - 1 in spades 1 in hearts and maybe 1 in clubs. Oops you'd better play well or your partner will hate you. With the heart lead use the rule of eleven to work out the possible position of the KH and JH You are hoping that the heart King is in east's hand and that west underlead the JH as it isn't wise to underlead a king in any suit unless there is no other option.
We will play low in dummy and try to make the 10H. Cover KH with AH and draw trumps (remember to count as they are drawn out) and then lead low to the JS, AS covers the JS. Win the spade return and the QH is high. Enter your hand with KC to draw the last trump the rest of the tricks are yours
This is why sometimes other people get into slams that shouldn't have been bid, but some gambler always does - and shouldn't make - but its there, cold. There's nothing you can do about it but its very frustrating if you are obedient and follow the rules strictly.
