Bidding

Partner opens 1C - opposition overcalls 1H, you bid 1NT any shape but 6-9 points. Partner makes a double, this time for takeout if you have a suit but your only suit is hearts so you don't you pass and the double becomes a penalty double. All pass.

Acol Bidding

Partner opens 1C - opposition overcalls 1H, you bid 1NT any shape but 6-9 points. Partner makes a double, this time for takeout if you have a suit but your only suit is hearts so you don't you pass and the double becomes a penalty double. All pass.

Plan Before You Play

Lead either clubs or diamonds, in this case leading your diamonds pays off with more tricks than the club lead. Taking them 2 light doubled for 500 points

The Play

Lose the heart the spade and the diamond leads. Win the second diamond return and then draw trumps until the oppositions hold are all out - remembering to count them as they are played.

Comment

If you bid 2NT (but you shouldn't as you don't have the points) after partner's takeout double he will raise you to 3NT which you can make.

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
