The opposition make a weak 2 spade bid (showing 6-10 HCP plus 6 spade cards . you must overcall - showing a good suit and opening hand points. If you make a takeout double in this situation you are promising at least 3 cards in each of the the unbid suits, and you do not have this in your heart suit. All Pass

Plan Before You Play
In a suit contract count your losers. One loser in spades, 1 in hearts none in diamonds and 1-2 in clubs. Draw trumps as quickly as possible as with at least 2 six card suits out (Easts's spades and your clubs) there is likely to be some ruffing by the opposition if you dont.
The Play
Win the spade lead and draw trumps watching to see if trumps are distributed 3-3 (35%) or 4-2 (49%) . Ruff the second return of spades noting that your JS in Dummy is now a high card. Play your diamonds and the JS discarding the losing heart in your hand - the rest of the tricks are yours.
Comment
If you make a takeout double your partner bids 3H and you only have a singleton, so you need you will take partner out by bidding 4C. If trumps are split 4-2 you will lose one more trick
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
