Bidding

Partner opens 2C and the opposition overcall hearts, you cannot bid your spade suit as in this situation it shows a 5 card suit, so your only option is to make a negative double which tells partner you have 5+ points and no 5 card suit to bid, it also promises holdings in other suits. Partner bids 3D and you with 4 spade suit cards now bid 3S and your partner bids 4S. All Pass.

Acol Bidding

Partner bids 3D and you with 4 spade suit cards now bid 3S and your partner bids 4S. All Pass.

Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down and you count your losers - 1 diamond, 1 heart no spade or club losers. If the diamonds are split 2-2 between east and west you will not even have a diamond loser as you will drop the QD and JD.

The Play

West leads a heart, so whatever you play you will lose 2 heart tricks. Ruff the third round of hearts. Draw three rounds of trumps, play the KC and then the AD and KD watching easts and wests discards

Comment

If you play the KC after playing the AD and KD, you will make 11 tricks in this contract.

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
