Open the bidding 3C a pre-emptive bid with 7-10 points and a 7 card club suit. The opposition make a takeout double. Back your self here when the opposition bid over the top of you and rebid 4C, you are not vulnerable and the opposition appear to have a vulnerable game worth 620 points their way. East makes a takeout double and West names hearts, bid 4C!

Plan Before You Play
Not many points have we? but a fabulously long club suit and a void in hearts, despite the low points count this is a strong holding and your bidding should reflect this fact. The opponents should have bid their game. Count your losing tricks 1 in clubs, 3 in diamonds and 1 in spades, that should be a maximum of 2 light. You will ruff every heart, draw trumps, finesse the spades for the KS being in wests hand, hope the AD is in easts hand and we might make our contract.
The Play
Ruff the heart lead, a round of trumps, ruff the heart return, another round of trumps - good they are all out, directly finesse JS (because if it succeeds we want to lead from our hand a second time),play the AS and discard a diamond in hand on the last spade (you did count the spades as they were played didn't you? and know that the last one is good). Lead a low diamond towards KD, play the rest of your trumps and lose the last diamond.
Comment
This hand can you can make make at least 10 tricks (5C) in a club contract even though you only have 15 HCP between you and your partner. This is the power of long suits and pre-emptive bidding.
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
