Acol Bidding
Partner opens their minor suit and you reply with your spade bid, tpartner bids game in spades. All Pass.
Plan Before You Play
Count your losing tricks : 1 in spades, 1 in diamonds and 1 in clubs. The contract appears safe. You will draw trumps and then play your winners in your side suits.
The Play
AC lead, lose this trick and win the second club lead by ducking and ruffing. Lead out your QS, west shows out east takes with the KS and leads back a heart which you win. You are going to need to make your spade tricks individually and not draw trumps as east has more than you do. Play AH, KH and QH over ruff east on your low club. A low diamond to QD which east wins and they return another diamond which you win with your KD. Ruff high a low diamond, lead another club which east ruffs and you cannot over ruff, discard your diamond, east leads a diamond
Comment
North South can make 3S = 9 tricks with this hand even though there is a very nasty trump split 4-0 and the clubs are distributed 8-0. Taking the club finesse does not make you any more tricks on this hand.
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
