Bidding

On the surface this hand looks perfect for opening 1NT.... do this at your peril you will go light, try it for yourself.
Open 1D your preferred minor, partner responds 1H, show partner your 4 card spade suit 1S which partner promptly raises to 2S, east makes a reentering double (begging their partner to bid their best suit), you pass just to see what it is, west bids 3C and you bid 3S. All Pass.

Acol Bidding

Open 1D the lower ranking of your 2 four card suits, rebid your spade suit. With your worthless club suit doubleton it is dangerous to rebid 1NT (15-16 HCP and a balanced hand) partner responds 1H, show partner your 4 card spade suit 1S which partner promptly raises to 2S, east makes a reentering double (begging their partner to bid their best suit), you pass just to see what it is, west bids 3C and you bid 3S. All Pass.

Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down: count your losers on the first three rounds of each suit. So you have 2 spade losers with 1 heart 2 club and 2 diamond losers. That is 7 losers, your contract is light unless you can develop 1 more winner. With your 4-4 spade fit and only a 4-3 fit in both diamonds and hearts you plan to lead low towards honors and play the honors in the short suits first to optimise tricks won. Your biggest problem is creating entries to dummies hand in order to lead low to both diamonds, hearts and to finesse spades twice!

The Play

Plan your play : Looks like the AC is with east, duck but expect west to lead the JC (top of a sequence lead) Lose the heart return, overtake the second heart return in dummy with KH (creating an entry) ; lead out the 10S making a direct finesse duck in your hand; lose the club return and ruff the third club in dummy, make a spade finesse another round of spades. Lead out QH and AD whatever suit is returned you can win draw the rest of your winners for 8 tricks.

Comment

You can make 8 tricks with this hand if you are in a suit. North/South can make 2S or 1D or 1H with this hand. Its important to delay drawing trumps so you have entries to dummy's hand.

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
