Bidding

Open 1H, partner responds 1S, you rebid 2D. Partner raises you to 4H. All Pass

Acol Bidding

Open 1H, partner responds 1S, you rebid 2D (partner now knows you have a 5 card heart suit). Partner raises you to 4H. All Pass

Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down, in a suit count your losing tricks. Spades:0, Hearts:1, Diamonds:0, Clubs:0. To make 13 tricks plan to not draw any rounds of trumps just over-ruff if the opponents trump in.

The Play

Win the club lead. Diamonds and Spades are the suits you will cross ruff. Lead JD to cover with AD, ruff a low diamond, play AS and then ruff a small spade, ruff a small diamond and play your KC, QC and over-ruff Easts ruff of the 9C. Hold your nerve and ruff the last diamond. Ruff a small spade and now play your last 2 trump cards. Making 13 tricks

Comment

Can you make 7H? If you count the outstanding trump cards only the QH is higher than your top 6 trump cards. If you just cross ruff all of your side suits planning to over-ruff if the opposition ruffs, then you can make 13 tricks!

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
