Acol Bidding

With 8 points and a seven card club suit, open 3C. All Pass.

Plan Before You Play

Dummy goes down, count your losers, Spades: 2, Hearts :1, Diamonds: 2, and Clubs: 0. You need to develop 2 more winning tricks to make your contract. Ruffing 2 hearts looks possible and the QS may win if East holds the KS.

The Play

Lose the heart lead, go up with the AD on the second lead as you don't want the opponents an opportunity to ruff with only 2 outstanding trump cards. Draw trumps ending up in dummy (1 round), play a low heart and ruff in hand. Enter dummy with your trump suit and ruff a second heart. Lead a low spade up to AS and then a low spade towards QS. Lose the diamond and spade return and the last three tricks are yours.

Comment

The opposition can make 4H if they bid it. But with 19 points they may not find it.

The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
