East opens the bidding 1H and you overcall 1S. West raises his partner to 2H and your partner bids 2S - East bids to 4H and your partner raises your overcall to 4S. The opposition are sure you cannot make it so they make a penalty double "X."
Acol Bidding
East opens the bidding 1H and you overcall 1S. West raises his partner to 2H and your partner bids 2S - East bids to 4H and your partner raises your overcall to 4S. The opposition are sure you cannot make it so they make a penalty double "X."
Plan Before You Play
With a bid of 4S you need to win 10 of the 13 tricks to make your contract. The penalty double gives the opposition more points if you go light but nearly doubles your points if you make it
The Play
Dummy, your partner's hand, goes down on the table - the opposition have made the opening lead in this case the 3H. Play low on the opening lead ruff the second heart lead, draw 1 round of trumps (they are then all out) play your AC and then ruff a low club. Lose a diamond trick and the rest of the tricks are yours cross ruffing diamonds and clubs.
Comment
Hahahaha! that got them... 790 points your way instead of only 690 if the opposition had not doubled you. Revenge is sweet!
The above commentary is intended as a guideline only. As with any Bridge hand there are many ways to bid and play any hand.
